The Carwang Danglis Maubas Farmers Association (CARDAMA FA) in Brgy. Poblacion IV, Balabac expanded its livestock enterprise after receiving 10 head of cattle worth Php 600,000 from the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Phase 2 last September 11, 2026.
The cattle complement the association’s existing goat-raising project, which the Program provided in 2023.
CARDAMA FA expressed interest in cattle production during the Livelihood Viability Assessment, citing local demand for beef due to the community’s predominantly Muslim population.
Association president Ferdinand S. Sinfuego expressed gratitude for the additional livelihood support. He said the cattle would help them expand their income-generating activities.
“Maraming salamat po sa SAAD dahil bukod sa kambing ay may mga baka na rin po kami. Sisikapin po naming paramihin ang mga ito at magkaroon ng alaga ang lahat ng miyembro ng aming asosasyon,” said Sinfuego.
[Thank you very much to SAAD because, aside from goats, we also have cattle now. We will do our best to increase their number and ensure that all members of our association will have animals to raise.]
The association selected initial caretakers based on their active participation in communal activities and regular meetings.
CARDAMA FA will immediately insure the cattle with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), following the DA MIMAROPA’s continuing call for farmers to protect their crops and livestock against potential losses.
DA MIMAROPA Regional Executive Director and SAAD Regional Focal Person Atty. Christopher R. Bañas has consistently encouraged farmers to avail insurance coverage to protect their crops and animals against diseases, pests, and other unforeseen risks.
Meanwhile, DA-SAAD MIMAROPA Community Development Officer II Al-asra A. Iralan led the formal turnover of the cattle to CARDAMA FA and urged the association to properly care for and manage the livestock. He also encouraged the group to grow the herd so other members may eventually have the opportunity to raise cattle and benefit from the project.
