Three (3) farmers’ associations (FA) received poultry cages from the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Phase 2 in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on January 16, 2025 at Pidigan, Abra.

These associations were the Paganao Farmers Association in Paganao, Abra; Gravelinas Farmers Association in Namarabar, Abra; and Rang-ay Farmers – Irrigators and Fisherfolks Association in Patiao, Abra. Each FA received one set of poultry cages amounting to a total of Php 60,000.

Through the communal table egg production project, the FA members can now diversify their income sources through the sale of fresh egg products while promoting sustainable poultry farming practices by applying the knowledge and skills gained from their table egg production and management training. These efforts are part of the SAAD Program’s commitment to improving livelihood opportunities in marginalized communities by enhancing the local poultry sector.

Leopoldo Sabado, President of the Paganao Farmers Association, expressed his gratitude to SAAD CAR, saying, “Agyaman kami ti inted yu a tulong karkaro kadakami nga mannalon nga agrigrigat, han kayo kuma nga maum-uma nga tumulong kanyami.”

(We are grateful for the assistance you have provided, especially to us farmers who truly need support, we hope that you will not get tired of helping us.)

Communal table egg housings were already constructed in 2024 and are currently being cleared and prepared in time for the expected deliveries of chicken layers and feeds in February 2025.

The associations who received their poultry cages in 2024 are also expecting the delivery of the chicken layers and feeds early this year. These associations include the Dalnatan Farmers’ Association, Dulao Farmers Association, Maliksi Farmers Association, Dalimag Norte Irrigators Association, Rimat Farmers and Fisherfolks Association, Supiil Multi-Crop Farmers Association, and Dur-as Rural Improvement Club. In total, 10 associations will receive poultry-related interventions in February 2025. ###
