To empower farmers with basic knowledge on marketing and enterprise development, the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Phase 2 in Zamboanga Peninsula (ZamPen) conducted a one-day training for the MAKULIP Farmers Association (FA) of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur, last May 22, 2025.
The activity focused on enhancing farmers’ understanding of markets, marketing principles, and effective selling techniques. Resource speakers Ms. Reena Marie Clemente, SAAD ZamPen Marketing and Enterprise Development (MAED) Unit Lead, and Mr. Jerol C. Amado, Area Coordinator, facilitated the discussions.
Participants were introduced to essential marketing concepts such as identifying market needs, defining target customers, and understanding buyer behavior. They also engaged in a hands-on workshop using the 4Ps of Marketing – Product, Price, Place, and Promotion—and conducted a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis to assess their group’s current enterprise direction.
“Tungod ani nga training, nakasabot mi nga gawas sa pagtanom ug pag-harvest, kinahanglan pud diay namo hunahunaon kung paunsa namo ibaligya ang among mga produkto sa hustong paagi,” said association President Mr. Laurencio L. Sanchez.
(Through this training, we have realized that aside from planting and harvesting, we also need to think about how to sell our produce wisely.)
He added, “Karon, nasabtan na namo nga importante kaayo ang pagkahibalo sa among merkado ug mga kostumer. Mapasalamaton kami sa among nahibal-an nga bag-ong kahibalo.”
(Now we understand that knowing our market and customers is very important. We are thankful for this new knowledge.)
Through interactive discussions and exercises, participants were guided on how to strategize product pricing, improve market reach, and communicate product value to potential buyers.
The training is part of DA-SAAD’s ongoing support for Phase 2 beneficiaries, with the goal of equipping farmer associations like the MAKULIP FA with the tools and knowledge needed to grow and sustain their agribusiness ventures. ###
