To ensure the sustained growth of previously distributed goat stocks, SAAD CALABARZON has delivered 200 sacks of goat feed to seven (7) farmers’ associations in Tingloy, Batangas.

This provision, a partial distribution under the Food Production and Livelihood (FPL) component, directly addresses the need for consistent goat nutrition, a key factor in establishing viable livestock businesses on the island.

The recipients were the San Juan Tingloy Farmers’ Association (SAJTIFA), Talahib Farmers’ Association (TAFA), San Isidro Farmers Agricultural Organization (SIFAO), Barangay Corona Agricultural Farmers’ Association (BACAFO), Makawayan Agricultural Farmers’ Association (MAFA), Samahang Agrikultural ng Pisa (SAPI), and Pedronians Agricultural Farmers’ Association (PAFA).

Goat raising is a vital livelihood source for many farmers in Tingloy, offering numerous benefits. Goats are relatively easy to manage, have a short reproductive cycle, and provide multiple income streams through the sale of meat, milk, and manure.

Beyond individual benefits, goat raising also fosters community collaboration. Farmers often work together in managing their herds, sharing knowledge, and marketing their products. This collective effort strengthens community bonds and promotes the development of sustainable, community-based enterprises that can improve the economic well-being of the entire community.

However, as revealed by Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) results, these farmers face a primary challenge: feed scarcity during the summer season. Natural forages like ipil-ipil tend to dry out due to intense heat, making it difficult to sustain adequate nutrition for their goats.

To mitigate this issue and ensure the continuous success of goat raising, SAAD CALABARZON proactively distributed goat pellets ahead of the summer season. This timely intervention provides essential feed support to maintain the health and productivity of the farmers’ livestock, complementing the 56 goats distributed in June 2024 under the same project.

Continuous monitoring and deworming activities have also been conducted to further enhance the well-being and growth potential of the goats.

[Many thanks to SAAD for the time and effort you dedicated to reaching us. These goat feeds will help us farmers to better care for our goats.]

Through its targeted interventions, such as the provision of goat feed, SAAD CALABARZON is not only supporting individual farmers but also fostering the growth of community-based enterprises in Tingloy. ###
