Seventeen (17) farmers’ associations in Abra received vegetables seeds from the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Program Phase 2 in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on January 16, 2025 at Pidigan, Abra.
A total of 1,850 packs of seeds were distributed, including 215 cans of eggplant, 390 packs of pole sitao, 440 cans of squash, 395 cans of ampalaya, 330 packs of okra, 50 packs of pepper, and 30 packs of watermelon. Additional seeds, seedlings, and cuttings are still scheduled for distribution this year.
Seven (7) associations received the seeds in Pidigan during the distribution date. Meanwhile, the other associations received it through the designated Community Development Officers who facilitated the delivery of seeds including calendars to their respective areas of responsibility in the following days.
The recipient associations are Bangbangcag Farmers and Fisherfolks Association, Namnama ti Pagbiagan Farmers Association, Lingey Masakbayan Farmers Association, Pikek Salidummay Farmers Association, Inc., Immitlog Farmers’ Association, Taping Farmers Association, Pang-ot Nagba Farmers Association, Bocog Farmers Irrigators Association, Inc., Gangit Bonglo Upland Farmers Association, Liagan Farmers Association, Sitio Batbato-Bogbog Farmers’ Association, Nagcanasan Farmers’ Association, Inc., Talaytay Farmers Association, Pantoc Farmers Association, Poblacion Rice and Corn Farmers Association, Alawa-Tapayen Farmers Association, and Caganayan Farmers and Fisherfolk Association.

The vegetable production project is expected to diversify income sources through the sale of fresh produce and to promote sustainable farming practices by utilizing the knowledge and skills learned from the prior technical training. These initiatives reflect the Program’s commitment to enhancing livelihood opportunities in marginalized communities by strengthening the local high-value crop sector. ###
