The Sinabugan Farmers’ Association (FA) in Bagulin, La Union, is reaping the rewards of their hard work and patience, as their cattle production project from the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program is generating income and improving their livelihoods.

Since receiving SAAD’s livelihood support back in June 2023, the association has successfully sold 11 of its 33 cattle, generating Php 227,716 in revenue.

The association’s success in marketing their cattle stemmed from a combination of strategic local networking and effective use of community connections. They established relationships with local butchers and livestock traders, leveraging word-of-mouth recommendations within their community and neighboring areas. Additionally, they participated in local market days, showcasing the quality of their cattle and building a reputation for reliable supply.

This significant income generation, achieved through the cattle sales, has provided a foundation for sustainable growth, a point underscored by Sinabugan FA President Dina Pascua, who spoke of the project’s lasting impact.

“This project has been a great help in strengthening our association. It has given us a sustainable way to improve our earnings while also learning better farming techniques,” said Pascua.

Pascua shared that the initiative is not just about cattle raising, but also about maximizing agricultural opportunities. Alongside their livestock venture, Sinabugan farmers maintain a 500-square meter communal garden established in October 2024, where they cultivate high-value crops to further supplement their income.

Area Coordinator Engr. Joshua T. Peduca, who has been actively monitoring the group and providing technical support, witnessed firsthand the association’s dedication and emphasized the long-term vision they have cultivated.

“The Sinabugan FA has shown perseverance in managing their cattle and crops. Their hard work is an investment in a more sustainable and prosperous future for their community,” said Peduca.

With more cattle still under their care, the association anticipates further sales and continued growth. Their ambitious goal is to become a top producer of quality vegetables and cattle products in Region 1 by 2030.

This ambitious vision, coupled with their proven ability to generate significant income, paints a promising picture for the future of the Sinabugan FA. ###
