To help improve farm productivity and income, 25 farmers from the Justiniana Edera Livestock Growers Association (JELGA), a beneficiary of the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) Phase 2 Program in Dinagat Islands, joined a training workshop on Value Chain Analysis for egg production held on July 23 – 24, 2025.
The training helped participants better understand the entire egg production and distribution process. It focused on adding value to their products, lowering production costs, and meeting market demands while working toward long-term sustainability.
Ms. Saira Shade G. Yaco, Senior Trade Industry Development Specialist of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Dinagat Islands, has shared the steps in Value Chain Analysis in Poultry, these are: 1. Identify the Livestock Value Chain Actors and Activities; 2. Map the Value Chain and Product Flow; 3. Analyze Value Addition at each stage; 4. Identify constraints and bottlenecks; 5. Evaluate Relationships and bottlenecks; 6. Analyze Opportunities for Upgrading; and 7. Develop an Action Plan and Intervention.
She also discussed the activities in poultry farming, such as breeding/stocks sourcing, feeding, animal husbandry, processing, marketing and distribution.
Chairperson Felimon C. Cape, shared that they are grateful to the program for conducting the training, it helped them to be more knowledgeable from handling the project to market linking, “Nagpasalamat mi sa programa sa DA-SAAD sa pagpahigayon sama ani ani nga training aron kami maka kat-on sa pagdumala sa manokan hangtud sa pagpamaligya.”

JELGA has been a SAAD beneficiary since FY2023 and has received egg and vegetable production projects. The group has been driven by the goal of improving their projects and expanding market reach to uplift their livelihood income.
Moving forward, the program envisions to support and boost the livelihood of the farmers and ensure sustainability of the projects; these initiatives include ongoing training, technical assistance and supporting them in accessing markets.
