SAMAR, May 28, 2021 – Two farmer cooperatives and associations (FCAs) in Pinacbadao, Samar received 1,920 ready-to-lay (RTL) chickens from the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Region 8.
Sitio Agimet Upland FA from Barangay Pelaon received 960 head of RTL chickens on May 26 and divided them among 17 members.
It was another community’s turn as the Botoc Farmers Credit Cooperative from Barangay Botoc received the same number of RTL chickens for their 40 members on May 27.
The expected egg production will be enough for their barangays and the neighboring towns as their target markets.
Aside from receiving the inputs for layer chicken egg production funded in 2021, each of the FCAs received additional project on vegetable farming.
The FCAs equally received 1 kilogram (kg) of squash, 1kg of pole sitao, 1kg of ampalaya, and 1/2kg of eggplant seeds. The target production area is 1 hectare per FCA. Together with the chickens, the total cost of the project is Php 2,716,047.
The projects are interventions of the SAAD Program towards fostering the production of poultry and harvesting of crops for sustainable food security.
The farmers, hopefully, will sustain the chickens and vegetables given to drive development within their community. ###
