Free range chickens distributed to FAs in San Remigio, Antique

ANTIQUE, August 7, 2020 – Three hundred sixty (360) native chickens, with a total worth of Php 244,800.00 were distributed to 6 farmers’ associations (FA), who are beneficiaries of the Department of Agriculture (DA) – Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) in the municipality of San Remigio.

The Native Chicken Production Project seeks to augment the income of 60 household recipients, who are members of Insubuan FA (241 members), Katilingban kang Mangunguma kang Brgy. Bagumbayan (20 members), Cabungaan FA with (103 members), San Rafael – San Remigio Irrigators’ Association (163 members), Alegria FA (18 members), and Bugo San Remigio Irrigators’ Association (88 members). 

Each group received drugs and biologics (Php 19,410.00) and feeds (Php 23,270.00). In addition, each farmer received 60 native chickens (12 cockerels and 48 pullets), two sacks of chicken feed, and one set of drugs and biologics. The Native Chicken Production Project is one of the components of the food production and livelihood interventions of the SAAD Program in Western Visayas. 

This project aims to be a source of additional income to the rural farmers and enable them to assist beneficiaries to establish communal agricultural enterprises. The project is being manage by the FA beneficiary for food production and enterprise purposes. 

The remaining 425 breeding stocks, initial supply of feeds, drugs and biologics will be delivered this coming September 2020. On the other hand, the provision of its housing, care and management of the project will be the counterpart and responsibility of the FA beneficiary.

Antique is one of the 30 priority provinces of the SAAD Program, which started its implementation in 2019. It was selected due to the province’s high poverty incidence rate among families (18.4%) based on the 2015 Philippine Statistics Authority report. ###
