North Cotabato, formerly Cotabato province, is a landlocked province in the Soccsksargen region (XII) that is located at central Mindanao. Its total land area is 900,890 ha that is bounded by the Lanao del Sur & Bukidnon (north), Davao City & Davao del Norte (east), Maguindanao (west) and Davao del Sur & Sultan Kudarat (southeast).
The people of North Cotabato sum up a total population of 1,379,747 based on the 2015 Census of Population (PopCen) and a Poverty Incidence rate (per Family) of 44.8 as per the 2012 survey of Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) thus making it one among the priority provinces of the Special Area for Agricultural Development Program for 2017.
North-Cot has 17 municipalities and one component city which also happened to be its capital, the Kidapawan City. It is a considered as a melting pot of people with various ethnic and Indigenous groups (Manobo, T’boli and Maguindanao) residing in the province.
The primary dialect used is Hiligaynon followed by Cebuano, Ilocano, Tagalog and English. North Cotabato is termed as the food basket of Mindanao with major productions in vegetables, tropical fruits, coffee, sugarcane and coconut, as well as an abundant source of freshwater fish and livestock. North Cotabato is also among the prime producers of raw and semi-processed rubber and industrial trees.
