Soccsksargen, otherwise known as Region XII, lies at the heart of Mindanao. Its name is an acronym for all its provinces and city which include: South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City. It has a total land area of 2,251,330 ha that is bounded by Northern Mindanao (north), Davao Region (west), and Celebes Sea (southwest). The “Drainage Basin of Mindanao” houses the second longest river in the Philippines and the longest in Mindanao, the Rio Grande River.  Prior to the creation of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), region XII is called the “Central Mindanao.”

The people of Soccsksargen sum up a total population of 4,545,276 based on the 2015 Census of Population (PopCen). Due to its abundant natural resources, this region mainly supplies hydroelectric power in Mindanao. Aside from such, reg. XII also relies mainly on agriculture and fishery. As a matter of fact, it is famous for tuna production with General Santos City dubbed as the “Tuna Capital of the Philippines.”
