The Northern Mindanao or Region X lies on the north-central portion of the Mindanao Island. With a total land area of 2,049,602 ha, this region encompasses five provinces namely the Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental and Misamis Occidental and two highly-urbanized cities: Iligan and Cagayan De Oro. The latter serves as the regional center. Northern Mindanao is the 8th populous region in the Philippines and second in Mindanao after Davao region with a total population of 4,689,302 based on the 2015 Census of Population (PopCen).
The people of Northern Mindanao are a mixture of various ethnicities such as Cebuanos, Boholeños, Warays, Ilongos, Maranaos, Tagalogs and Tausug descents. The economy of Northern Mindanao, which is mainly based on Agriculture, is the largest regional economy in the south.
