The Negros Island Region or NIR is a new administrative region located at the heart of Visayas. It comprises both Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental. It was established on May 29, 2015 through an Executive Order No. 183 issued by then President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. NIR is the fourth largest island in the Philippines and the second largest in Visayas next to Samar. It is situated between the islands of Panay and Guimaras (West), and Cebu (East) and is bounded by Siquijor (South) and Bantayan Islands (North).

The people of NIR, collectively called the “Negrenses” sum up a total population of 4,414,131 based on the 2015 Census of Population (PopCen). Its total land area of 1, 330, 960 ha. with abounding production of sugar followed by growing other crops, gamecock breeding and fishing.
