Apayao is a land-locked province, under the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), which lies on the northernmost tip of Luzon. Its total land area is 392,790 ha covering up 21% of the whole CAR. It has a population of 119,184, based on the 2015 Census of Population (PopCen) and a Poverty Incidence rate (per Family) of 54.7 as per the 2012 survey of Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) thus making it one among the priority provinces of the Special Area for Agricultural Development Program for 2017.
The nature-rich province dubbed as the “Cordillera’s Last Frontier of Nature Richness” has seven municipalities with 131 barangays. Its capital is the town of Kabugao. The folks in Apayao use Ilocano as their dominant dialect spoken followed by Isneg and Tagalog.
Aside from agriculture, the province is also into industries of gifts and house wares, furniture, food processing, garment craft and agricultural support based on data from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Provincial Office of Apayao.
