LEYTE, June 7, 2021 – The 15 beneficiaries of Sitio Olongline Farmers’ Association (SOFA) from Barangay Tahud, Inopacan, Leyte took part in the peanut and chicken production training of the Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) from June 2 to 3.
The peanut production training was conducted by Ms. Bernardita Pangilinan, the Agri-Extension Worker from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
Meanwhile, another training about the native chicken production was conducted by Mr. Allan Brit, the Provincial Coordinator of SAAD Leyte.
Both garnered positive feedback from the association members and their president, Rommel Esmero.
“On behalf of the Sitio Olongline Farmers’ Association, we are very thankful to receive our first livelihood intervention given by DA through the SAAD Program. Rest assured, we will do our very best to make this dream project successful,” said Esmero.
“By 2024, nakakurbata na ang mga lalaki ug nakaheels na ang mga babaye. Ug sa 2025, Milyonaryo na kami. (By 2024, men will be wearing neckties and women will be wearing heels. And by 2025, we will be millionaires),” Esmero added.
The project – Native Chicken and Peanut Production and Marketing – is currently being planned. 450 kilograms (kg) of peanut seeds and 220 heads of native chickens are expected to be delivered to SOFA in the third quarter of 2021. It will occupy 2 hectares of the communal area in Sitio Olongline in Tahud, Inopacan once the production starts.
Lessons shared with SOFA shall enable them to apply their newly acquired technical knowledge for their peanut and native chicken production. It will open more opportunities as the farmers become highly engaged to further flourish in the agricultural industry. ###
